Another one of those tracks lurking in my cart, trying every week to fit in, so glad to finally get it on; kicking off the show no doubt. Red’Out hails from Belgium, the brains and brawn behind 17:44 records which this originally appeared on. Most recently, he’s joined with the Italian duo Bicycle Corporation on the aptly named “California Rocks” compilation from Recovery House. Lovely melody, killer vibe and nice warm feel. Wonderful work from some fresh faces.

Far from a fresh face, speaking figuratively of course, Dubfire has been a mainstay for years, especially in the past couple years where he’s launched himself as a superstar virtuoso outside the revered Deepdish moniker. That, almost exclusively, has come from a unswerving penchant for dark, sometimes downright scary techno…he’s at it again here with “Rejekt”, which armed with a dynamite double-time bassline/melody has earned a spot on Dave Seaman’s newest Global Underground CD. Top flight stuff from a producer who’s gone a bit quiet lately. We missed him.

James Teej is from Toronto Canada. He has a bad-ass looking press shot, a minimally styled website, and beats to match. This is the first opportunity we’ve had to taste his brand of produce and I must say we’re all very impressed. Kudos on that are really due to Dave Seaman who snagged the track for his, you guessed it, his new Global Underground disc. In case you were counting, that’s three tracks in two weeks. That aside, this track on the hanger doesn’t seem like much, but put it on in a set and it fits like a dream. Excuse the metaphor, but really…this track mixes incredibly, which is a real accomplishment. It’s a rare find, especially when it sounds so unassuming.

Beltek, trance king; Umek, techno titan; Jay Lumen, progressive’s golden boy of two years ago where this track comes from. It’s a dream team, and once again Armada is responsible for bringing back a classic for their end-of-the-summer Ibiza Progressive Tunes compilation. Loved it when it came out for it’s push and pull drive and tightly stripped melody, love it now for the same reasons. Nice re-run, go and get it.

The beat behind this track is so completely stripped down, it’s almost innocent sounding. But then Khomha, one of my favorite new finds of 2010, opens the floodgates and the true dirty trance nature of the track comes bursting through. Khomha has basslines down, and he lets it do the talking on this track. Massive massive bassline, the kind that makes your chest hurt on the dancefloor. It’s a few months old, but also getting a re-release from Enormous Tunes as they kick off their Autumn Tunes collection. I’ll say it again because it’s worth it, the bassline is ridiculous. Watch out.

I would have picked this next track just from the name “The Kids want Techno”…because we do, don’t we? DJ Jordan, a newcomer on the show, but certainly not a newcomer to the scene, especially in Berlin, which is also where the host label Ostfunk Records is from. Plain, simple, well-executed club techno here. Nothing frilly to turn one off, just fat basslines and some cool arrangements. Club techno at its finest.

Baroque, the once colossus of progressive music has been taken down a few notches over the years to the point where most have failed or given up. But this UK-based label has stuck to its guns and really made some serious noise in 2010. The huge hit “333” being one of them, and in that tough line of tech-laced beats in this new one from Matan Caspi, whose tough as nails progressive we’ve featured before on this show. It’s a wonderful and not-overdone mix of warm and trancey pads with truly gritty techno beats. Just what the doctor ordered.

Speaking of those individuals who have stepped up their game in 2010, the Swedish duo Ticon absolutely falls into that category. They’ve embraced this more dramatic, harder progressive style that these northern European countries have been the epicenter of and really run with it. This time it’s with German duo Haske & Jonhson on the label where they really showcase their best work, Iboga Records. Chrystal-clear bassline and percussion are a standout on this track.

Our oft-featured Da Fresh appears here on a track with the up-and-coming French electro star Greg Cerrone for a brand new exclusive track to Cr2’s “Ibiza Exclusives 2010” compilation…a truly massive collection of rocking music for those of any taste. This one in particular caught our attention because of its unique twist on the common deadmau5 chord synth, with is tweaked and re-tempo’d several time over. It’s a fascinating experiment in time signatures, and we think it pays off quite nicely. It also sets up our last track of the day, but lets not steal any thunder…yet.

Underworld has been one of the very very few electronic acts to #1, stay together, but much more impressively #2, to consistently put out relevant albums that continue to attract fans while keeping old ones. In this instance, they’ve opted to collaborate Carlos Santana-style with some of the hottest names in the scene today. This particular track features background stylings from Toolroom label-boss Mark Knight and D. Ramirez. And then, of course, you have Karl Hyde’s epic crooning vocals and some breathtaking mastering work…it’s a warm wonderful slice of contemporary progressive house, and a sure-fire hit.
