A day off did me some good, today.

Just had a BALLER writing session, which is a welcome relief given how hard I was on myself just last night after finishing my outline and just feeling like it was lackluster. Tonight, I rediscovered the VOLUME of what I want to create. As in, turned up.

Music, of course, really really helped. As it always does for me. There’s an artist that you guys need to check out, and her name is Iggy Azalea. She’s just *just* hitting the scene. In fact, she really only has two songs that are “professionally” done, as in real money was put into them to make them worthy of the radio. She managed to catch the ear of T.I. and he brought to bear his considerable connections and talent to do two tracks with her. And they’re fucking dope.

I’m not actually a huge fan of T.I., but he undeniably has talent, and an ear for fully formed musical bombs. I mean, it’s INSANE to me the difference in the creative and technical aspects how working with someone who’s been on top can bring to a piece of music. It’s an entirely different league. Not to say that the songs she had before and the producers she worked weren’t talented. That’s not what I’m saying at all. But the difference between working with talented people, and working with professionals is eye opening. That leap is crazy.

I want to be there. Take that huge step. It may only be the difference between 90% and 100% but that last 10% is the difference between imitation and art.

Anyway, I digress. Slightly.

Happy again with this story that I’m creating. In addition to volume, I was reminded of what stories are rreeallllyyy about…which is character. I started instinctively doing some character work tonight, and a few dynamics came to me that got me really excited and back on track. Serial killers and forensic science may be interesting, but only for so much time. They’re not why we love Silence of the Lambs, or Hannibal. We love our characters, people very much like you and I, going through extraordinary things. And that’s what I remembered tonight.

A track from “Beasts of the Southern Wild” soundtrack just came on as I wrote that, and it was just about the most perfect thing ever. If you haven’t listened to THAT piece of music, I highly recommend. One of the most heartfelt and poignant scores I’ve ever come across, especially if you’ve seen the movie…which I also highly recommend.

The Ho and I watched Frozen tonight. It wasn’t quite as amazingly good as I’d expected – there were several glaring holes for me in their plot, which is totally surprising to me. BUT…they fucking nailed it in the end. It actually surprised me, and got me right in the feels. So, bravo to them. They got the music and humor right, too…and at the end of the day, those were all enough to make Frozen deserve to be hailed as the animated movie that brought Disney back.

Work tomorrow. I got rest today. I feel brand new. It’s glorious. Good night!
