I created a playlist on Spotify recently called “Poppies 2014” to stash whatever pop music out there that I like listening to, and tonight I decided to peruse the Top 100 chart…right now I’m listening to a song called “Na Na” that started out with a seriously sick hook…and then descended into singing about “Na Na” and big booty’s…which makes me giggle, because isn’t “Na Na” a pretty freaking wide-spread thing to call your grandmother?

Blasted through work today. Got my writing done first thing in the morning, which was great. Editing was up and down, but finished strong, and now I’m tired and hungry, and ready to go to bed 😛

It’s been a solid two days, though. No distractions, except for the All-Star game, but even that didn’t stop me. It was what I needed after a hectic start to the month. Seems to happen pretty much every month, though, to be honest. Which is fine. I’m used to it now. Just keep my head down, don’t stress about it.

I’m deep into the final season of Deep Space Nine, and I’ve been talking to Josh about it lately. He just tore through the series a couple months ago for the first time, and he loved it. Like I said, it’s a weird experience for me, given how young I was when I first watched these shows. But what Josh and I keep coming back to discussion-wise is that enjoying Trek really comes down to a matter of taste. Objectively-speaking, at least in terms of writing, Trek is far from great. So many mistakes are made throughout all the shows, both unintentional and by design. But…if you LIKE watching good people trying to BE good people and making good decisions…then inevitably you find yourself giving a pass to all the convenient, shitty writing. I happen to be one of those people. I like watching these decent future navy men and women wading through morality and the unknown. I like the belief that science will take us farther than we could possibly imagine. But is Trek a strictly well-written show? No. But, I don’t care.

The Ho just turned me on to a cool new song from a cool new artist. Laura Welsh, and the track is “Break the Fall.”  Good stuff. And I’m saying that even without the Ho looking over my shoulder to see what I think. It’s legit 🙂

Workout tomorrow…nervous that I’ll be shit. We’ll see. I’ve also decided that I’m going to see Edge of Tomorrow tomorrow night. Yes, it’s weird that I just wrote two “tomorrow’s” in a row in that sentence.

Novel writing went really well today…it was one of those sessions where something blossomed that hadn’t been previously outlined. It just kind of happened. An emotional scene with some symbolism that (I’m hoping) isn’t on the nose, or forced in any way. There was flow today…maybe because I started in the morning? Or maybe just because I’ve written for three whole days in a row now…I’m not sure. I’m still not entirely sure when my best time to get writing done during the day (or night) actually is. I haven’t really kept track of that, and I think now I will. It’s always good to know when you’re feeling most creative.

I do know this: it’s definitely NOT between 2pm and 4pm in the afternoon. Every day, WITHOUT FAIL I desperately, desperately want to take a nap in that two hour window of the day. Ugh. It’s horrible. Heavy eyelids and everything.

Oh! And I found myself on Spotify today…pretty sure that’s a new development. That was pretty cool. It’s stuff from back in the late aughts when I doing music stuff, but it seems like it was just yesterday. It’s nothing particularly good, mind you. It’s definitely not what I’d consider my best work, but still, I put my name on it and I’m proud of it.

I’m going to go eat, y’all. I’ll see you tomorrow!
