Not sure how much of tonight’s cover art you can see, but it’s amazing.

Surprise, surprise, it’s going to be another entry of Ira talking about work 😛 Well, kind of. Not the whole entry, but here at the top anyway since it WAS a work day.

Our good friend Matt came over today – he had some stuff to run with the Ho to put on tape, and then afterwards he ran through a pitch that he’s been working on. It was really fun to watch, and we were able to give our impressions…not sure how helpful they’ll be in terms of specifically crafting his pitch since neither of us know how those are *supposed* to go…but at the very least, we were able to tell him what we liked.

That actually threw the work day off more than I’d hoped it would, which is not a reflection on having Matt over. Indeed, it was a wonderful distraction…I like hanging out with the dude. From my recent past, I know that such distractions cause my work days to kind of snowball…and that was starting to happen. What had began as a 30-minute getting-behind-the-goals turned in a snap to an hour-and-a-half tardiness…

…but I rallied. I re-structured my day, added some work in the later hours, which psychologically put me back on “track” and gosh durnit if it didn’t work and I’m sitting here in bed having got all the editing work done that I scheduled for myself (after falling behind…so that mean 3 minutes shy, but DUDE…that’s nothing), and having done my FULL writing hour on the Icarus script.

So, it ended up being a full day of work accomplished. A testament to my new schedule, really…and the newfound wind in my sails; that I didn’t let getting behind derail my entire day. I sucked it up and plowed forward. Very happy with that. And, honestly, even more happy to have done my writing hour in full. I *stopped* editing in order to go and do it, and then went back and finished the little bit of editing I had left. That’s gangster.

I watched a decent amount of Voyager today, too. We’re into season 4, solidly into the season, and it’s sooooo much better than season 3. Tonight there was the sweet little one-off episode with Janeway and the holo-version of Leonardo Davinci on an adventure together in the real world, trying to get back technology that was stolen from the ship (including Davinci). It’s John Rhys-Davies, you know of “and my axe!” Lotr fame…and he’s just wonderful. Such a delightful actor. It’s such a silly little episode, too; episodic in the extreme in that nothing that’s happening will affect anything in the next week’s episode, or EVER…but so fun because it’s a lot of screen time between two great actors.

There was also the two-part episode Year of Hell today, too, with Kurtwood Smith of Robocop or That 70s Show fame. So good! Surprisingly good, actually. Dialogue is sharp, it’s a “dream” episode basically so they can do a lot of really fun things like destroy the ship bit-by-bit (you know, because it all gets reset at the end). Some good Voyager today. I also listened to all the new Spotify music and found some cool stuff today, too.

It was a good day, guys! I definitely still feel anxiety over this phone-call-a-week thing that I’ve set for myself…but I’m going to do it on Friday. See how it feels. Really shitty and nerve-wracking and then like a load-off, most likely 😛 We’ll see.

Coops has been extra sweet and snuggly lately. Both the Ho and I have talked about it. He’s curled up down on the floor right now on my side of the bed and I just stopped to give him a scratch. My theory is that he’s more affectionate because he’s not so itchy any more 😛 Coco tonight woke herself up from a nightmare with the reverse-sneeze snorts that shih tzus get sometimes. It’s this breathing loop they get into where they gasp for air, but their soft pallette closes up and so they think they’re choking…the solution is actually incredibly simple: get them to breathe through their mouth instead, which you do by pinching their nose shut. She was actually shaking, poor girl.

But now she’s all good taking over the foot of the bed 😛 Life is as it should be.
