Okay, so first off, before we talk about video games…I *rocked* my work day today. The one, teeny tiniest little snuff was that I missed my morning writing sesh because of some other family work that I needed to take care of. Other than that, today was just one of those “days” where the work flowed quickly and well, the writing was on point, and I finished everything early instead of late.

I started playing Fallout 4 tonight…it’s my first fallout, and the first game I’ll be playing on this newfangled PS4 contraption…and it’s awesome. Already. The first thing I noticed was the music. Full orchestra, real score…Skyrim wasn’t always full orchestra, but it was definitely some real music, and it was absolutely 100,000% one of the reasons I fell in love so much with playing that game.

Next thing I noticed was the design aesthetic…which admittedly I already knew about – not from having played any of the previous games, but from being at least passingly familiar with them…

And then the next thing I noticed was how friggin awsome the opening sequence is. From setting up my character’s face because he’s looking in the mirror with his wife, to the super fun storyline of being above ground when a nuclear attack takes place, the story never stopped. The cut-scenes were integrated flawlessly. Nothing takes you out of the narrative. It’s amazing.

And that’s where I stopped 😛

I have to be one of those gamers who plays for an hour to 90 minutes at a time. I just have too much shit to do. And that’s hard. Sometimes I won’t let myself pick up the controller because I don’t want to get sucked in. Those are the hard times. The previous sentence needs to be read with a raspy, dramatic voice.

THEN I was having a texty convo with my bud(/boss) Reed who was telling me about some crazy deals over on the Playstation store, including The Witcher 3 which I’ve had TWO people tell me I had to play in the past two days. So…I bought that shit. Boom. It was half off. Can’t complain about dat shit.

K, Imma end this shit right here. I want to read tonight. I’m still slogging through the beginning scenes of The Handmaid’s Tale…it’s wonderfully written, with lots of little details hidden in the stream-of-consciousness prose (that shit was, like, so friggin popular in the 80s and 90s, amiright?)…but nothing has actually happened yet. So…we’ll see if that gets more interesting tonight.

Night, y’all!

Artwork tonight is from David A. Hardy, who I’m realizing is one of my favorites…perhaps some day I’ll own one of his paintings.
