So, I’m here in bed writing this entry on my brand new computer. Finally!

Four years ago I bought myself a refurbished iMac on credit. I remember feeling so, so guilty for that. I was broke. As poor as I’d ever been. I was living off unemployment and we’d just moved into the apartment building we’re in now because we needed financial reprieve. I knew I needed a job that I could work from home, and so I went out looking for contract work as a video editor.

I found a job, and they needed me to have a Mac. I had a PC. A five-year-old computer at that point. That iMac was $2000, even with the discount that our friend Arg was able to swing me. I was so worried that this new job wasn’t going to work out (and it didn’t actually, until another full year later when I finally figured out how to regularly work from home), and that this computer bought on credit was going to be just another card I could never pay off…

…but it was part of the steps that changed everything for me. I figured out that job, how to make money from it, and it led to all of the other work that I have now. And today, I picked up a computer that was able to pay for in cash from savings because the Ho and I have been able to thrive over the past couple years.

Don’t get me wrong: dropping the dollas I did on this sexy little (big!) machine fucking hurts me. Oh, jesus, does it hurt. It was a full grand more than I was expecting…but the fact that I was able to pay for it outright is something quite miraculous from where I was the last time I bought a new computer.

The point is this: I’m grateful for the good fortune that I’ve had, and grateful for the people who have given me the opportunity to work hard. I hope both continue for a long time, and I hope that whoever is reading this can likewise catch a break here and there. The good times make the bad times bearable.

Moving on…I don’t like typing in bed on this computer. I like typing in my iPad. So, that’s that. Probably not much of this in the future. It’s the front of the computer. The “hand rest” part. Well, in bed, it’s not a hand-rest, it’s a sharp edge digging into my forearms. Don’t get that on the iPad. But, other than that, the keyboard is totally fine. I was reading that some people didn’t like it — I do. No complaints from me.

I edited with Josh all day today; we got all the way through to the end of his feature. I’m so friggin proud of him. It looks so good. He *clearly* did so much work on these last two acts from when I saw them last. It really saved us a ton of time together. There’s so much fun stuff that happens in his last couple acts, too. It’s really a lot of fun.

So, that happened, that was all day really – then I rushed over to meet Arg at his house before he left for a photobooth gig because he was the one who had my computer. Picked it up, rushed home, and then got to work on transferring everything over to this beauty. It’s thin, lightning quick, and I’m excited to use it.

That’s all for tonight. Catch you crazy kids tomorrow!
