Day 1,378: Daze Off

Day 1,378: Daze Off

I have jury duty tomorrow, and I’m grumpy about it. Los Angeles sucks in that regard…if you vote in elections down here, you are virtually guaranteed to be called for jury duty once a year. It’s happened to me for four years in a row, now. That said, I’ve been fortunate enough thus far not to have been called in.

Man, Jury duty is something we need to fix in this country. If Jury duty paid $10 an hour, I think it would make a huge difference. It would for me, anyway. It doesn’t need to be great money, just something you know? What is it, like $15 a day or some shyte like that? 1950s wages? Incentive, that’s the name of the game; give me an incentive to perform jury duty, and I won’t feel like running for the hills each time I get that dreaded summons in the mail. I understand, completely, how important juries are, how critical, to our society…which is exactly why I’m saying we should TREAT them that way.

But, I digress 😛

No writing today, but lots of sleeping. I’m a bit depressed at the moment, to be honest. I don’t feel particularly grounded, it’s be a lot of traveling and time spent away from my work, and I feel discombobulated overall, which I feel like was discussed pretty thoroughly last night. Having another day, at least, of all that being hijacked tomorrow certainly isn’t getting me all that excited…but it is what it is. At least in the beginning of the day I’ll be able to sit down and write for a while in the juror room. That’s what I hope, at least.

Oh, and here’s a positive: it’s not the downtown courthouse. It’s the one in Van Nuys, which is much closer to me. So, that’s nice.

The A’s won today! That was cool. I think before I sleep I’m going to watch the inning in which they scored 5 runs to come back and beat the Angels. We were down 10-4 and came back to get the win. That’s pretty special. We have some really solid, young players on our team I think. I hope.

Game of Thrones was EPIC tonight. And I won the tittie count game! For the first time ever, I think! That was a very nice capper to the day.

More tomorrow, and hopefully less “woe is me” and more “today was a badass day!”
