It was my birthday today. Finally turning 21. And to celebrate, we’re camping out in the living room on the air mattress (plus memory foam pad).

Well, celebrate that AND the fact that our poor dogs were dealing with a flea infestation. I say that in the past tense out of pure optimism. Optimism that us turning our entire apartment upside down *will* actually turn the tide against the tiny little agressors that are currently causing the poor Coops to cannibalise his backside.

We honestly weren’t quite sure what the issue was – he takes his flea meds on the regular, every 4 weeks as instructed – it looked like maybe a rash, maybe allergies…then I looked closer at his poor bum, and I saw the bites. They look just like they do on human skin…slightly raised, red overall, and a white little top of the dome. A cluster of about four or five of them. And THEN we saw a huge fat flea scuttle through his fur right in front of our eyes. Dead giveaway.

So, we’ve taken out ALL the bedding, the pillows, the sheets…everything is going through the hot water wash. We powdered both sets of carpets and let it sit for a couple hours before vacuuming it all up again. We’ve sprayed down all the shit that we can’t throw into the washing machine, and we put both Coops and Coco through a flea bath. Coops is also in a cone so we can spray him where he likes to lick and chew himself…poor guy. Though, the type of cone that we use is more like an inflatable donut that he can use as a pillow…so there’s that.

The powder that we used for the carpets smells rather strongly, so the Ho had the good idea to get us set up in the living room to sleep. I think both of us might have woken up with a headache had we slogged through it in the bedroom.

I didn’t do much else today. I watched some football, today was the first game of the season…I watched a little baseball. We went out to breakfast at Dupar’s, I did some apartment work. I was going to get some editing work done, but the flea situation really put the kaybash on that 😛

Anywho…I’m a year older. It was nice to have it be low key. Next year, though, I think I want to do something fun. Gotta do that every so often, you know?

Good night, y’all! Here’s to camping in the living room!
